Was playing around with these surfboard model logos yesterday. Seeing what type of silhouettes work well against the type. I think I'm almost there, but not sure the Performa Hip logo looks all that hip (just yet).

Not quite sure why, but I stumbled upon some old editions of Apple's eNews from 2007 and found that they all had missing images. It looks like Apple may be killing their archives after enough time has passed for subscribers to well and truly catch up on all their news from over three years ago.

Just got back from a whirlwind trip to Bris Vegas, Australia. Spent my time sipping lattes, popping in and out of pubs and clubs and documenting artistic litter. Not that I have any objection to the use of the City streets as a public canvas - I just thought the word litter was a cool term. I may even use it again in future. All of these photos were snapped with my iPhone 4.

Never one to ignore the smaller details in life and on the web, I like the style of this pull-quote found on the Constant Contact website. I may have gone with different colours, but the speech "bubble" design is pretty cool.

I've been using a combination of "finger painting" and using a Pogo Sketch and thinking I'm preferring the control of the stylus a little more at the moment. I'm excited to see how far I can take this drawing thing on the iPad. I've got both SketchBook Pro and Brushes installed and am tending to prefer SketchBook Pro at the moment.

Introduction

  • Websites don't have to look the same in every browser
  • reset.css imported before all other stylesheets

1. Always ask "What Happens If..."

  • You can use any inline element (<em> <span> <strong> etc) to add emphasis
  • Block level elements are <div> <h2> etc
  • You need to use inline elements (not block level elements) inside inline elements Eg. <a><em>stuff... not <a><h2>stuff...
  • Absolute positioning will take an elements out of the normal flow of the document
  • Using em units for padding will scale with text size
  • Floating elements are best for elements that vary in length, amount etc
  • overflow:hidden on an element will self-clear any floats that occur within it
  • When a floated elements doesn't have a width specified, it will expand as wide as it can
  • A hyperlink can't wrap around a block element

I only just realized how much of an improvement the iPhone 4 camera is. I remember when I first got the phone I did some tests by checking the resolution etc, but comparing photos from the old and the new side by side makes the improvement a lot more obvious. The clarity, contrast and depth on the new iPhone look spectacular when compared with the old. Finally a descent camera that I'll have in my pocket wherever I go.

DP Surfboards have some new spanking logos, so it felt only natural to plaster them on the existing DP Surfboards website. Considering how everyone is dribbling over their iPhones and iPads these days (myself included), this Flash website will soon become a thing of the past. It was good while it lasted, but it just needs to get the hell out of the way and let this new HTML5 shit everyone is frothing over just steamroll it.  Huh?

Here's a preview of the first boards with the new DP logo I have been working on. We have tested a variety of colour combinations and printed a limited run. We'll make a couple of adjustments to colours and sizing then start using them for new board orders.
